Each year, Golf Digest releases its America's 100 Greatest Courses list, as well as the top-ranked courses in all 50 states. Below are the three best courses in New York.
1. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club - Located in Southampton, this 7,450-yard, par-70 course is also ranked as the fourth best in the country. It was created in the late 19th century and is considered to be the earliest links course in the United States. The historic course will be the site of the 2018 U.S. Open.
2. National Golf Links of America - Also located in Southampton, this course was designed by C.B. Macdonald in 1911 and has been remodeled twice, most recently in 1969 by Robert Trent Jones. Although it wasn't included in America's 100 Greatest Courses from 1969 to 1985, it is currently ranked as the eighth best course in the country.
3. Winged Foot Golf Club (West) - A 7,258-yard, par-72 located in Mamaroneck, Winged Foot West was ranked 10th among the best courses in the country. It was originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast and will serve as the host site of the 2020 U.S. Open.
